1999 was designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Older Persons. As part of the celebration at the UN headquarters in New York City, which also included Nelson Mandela and Secretary General Kofi Annan, Jeff Baron was invited to present a reading of Visiting Mr. Green.

The reading starred Eli Wallach and James Kall, both from the NYC cast, and was followed by a talk by Jeff Baron about some of the aging issues highlighted in Visiting Mr. Green, including isolation, dignity, dependence and prejudice. A Q&A with delegates and attendees followed.
