The Japanese premiere of Visiting Mr. Green took place in 2003.  Produced by the Hyogo Performing Arts Project, it played at the Shin Kobe Oriental Theatre in Kobe, then at the Kinokuniya Southern Theatre in Tokyo.  Katsumi Kiba played Mr. Green, and Ken Osawa played Ross Gardiner.

“「現在、米国はあまり人気がありません。 でもこんな温かいプレーを見て、 これは文化であると結論付けなければなりません その力は軍隊を超えて広がっています。 Visit Mr. Green by Jeff Baron の登場人物は 2 人だけで、 しかし、それは全世界を作成します。”

“The United States is not enjoying great popularity right now, but after seeing a warmhearted play such as this, you have to conclude that this is a culture whose power extends beyond the military. Visiting Mr. Green by Jeff Baron has only two characters, but it creates an entire world.”

Directed by Greg Dale from a translation by Daisaku Hirakawa, the production invited Jeff Baron to Tokyo to see the play’s final shows.

After the last show, there was a party, where each person involved with the production, from the costume assistant to the director and the author stood up and described what the experience meant to them.
