Performances of Κάθε Πέμπτη κύριε ΓκρηνVi (“Every Thursday, Mr. Green”) began October 25, 2023 and will play every Wednesday through Sunday at Argo Theatre in Athens. Starring Giorgos Konstantinou as Mr. Green and Apostolis Totsikas as Ross Gardiner, the production is directed by Kostas Gakis.
“There is something deeply personal in the play by the American Jeff Baron, something that, even if it is not visible, is perceived. His sensitivity and love for the weak aspects of people – and himself, but also the way he handles it.
An elderly man lives alone in an apartment in New York after the death of his wife, far from her life and her joys. He experiences an unbearable everyday life until the moment a young corporate executive invades his home, with the obligation to visit him every week and take care of him. From their first meeting it is clear that an abyss separates them. But the course of the project, step by step, will lead these two (seemingly) so different people to a convergence.
It is not that they will eventually come together, but mainly that each will overcome his own darkness, obsessions and fear of difference. Because both young Ross Gardiner and old Mr. Green carry their own secrets. When they manage to reveal their truths, life will give them some light.
The text, direct, clear, true, human, handles the subject matter in a modern, current way. Loneliness, family and relationships, diversity – gender and religion, bigotry. And all of this with a tenderness, an emotion, a mood of sincerity, which nevertheless does not border on melodrama.”

“Υπάρχει κάτι βαθιά προσωπικό στο θεατρικό έργο του Αμερικανού Τζεφ Μπάρον, κάτι που ακόμα κι αν δεν φαίνεται, γίνεται αντιληπτό. Η ευαισθησία και η αγάπη του για τις αδύναμες πτυχές των ανθρώπων – και του εαυτού του, αλλά και ο τρόπος που το διαχειρίζεται.
Ενας ηλικιωμένος άνδρας ζει μόνος σε ένα διαμέρισμα στη Νέα Υόρκη μετά τον θάνατο της γυναίκας του, μακριά από τη ζωή και τις χαρές της. Βιώνει μια αφόρητη καθημερινότητα ως τη στιγμή που εισβάλλει στο σπίτι του ένας νεαρός κοινωνικός λειτουργός, με την υποχρέωση να τον επισκέπτεται κάθε εβδομάδα και να τον φροντίζει. Από την πρώτη τους συνάντηση είναι φανερό ότι τους χωρίζει μια άβυσσος. Η πορεία όμως του έργου, βήμα-βήμα, θα οδηγήσει αυτούς τους δύο (φαινομενικά) τόσο διαφορετικούς ανθρώπους σε μια σύγκλιση.
Δεν είναι ότι θα έρθουν τελικά κοντά, αλλά κυρίως ότι ο καθένας θα ξεπεράσει τα δικά του σκοτάδια, τις εμμονές και τον φόβο της διαφορετικότητάς του. Γιατί τόσο ο νεαρός Ρος Γκάρντινερ όσο και ο ηλικιωμένος κύριος Γκριν κουβαλάνε τα μυστικά τους. Οταν καταφέρουν να αποκαλύψουν τις αλήθειες τους, η ζωή θα τους χαρίσει λίγο φως.
Το κείμενο, άμεσο, καθαρό, αληθινό, ανθρώπινο, διαχειρίζεται τη θεματολογία με σύγχρονο, σημερινό τρόπο. Μοναξιά, οικογένεια και σχέσεις, διαφορετικότητα –φύλου και θρησκείας, φανατισμός. Κι όλα αυτά με μια τρυφερότητα, μια συγκίνηση, μια διάθεση ειλικρίνειας, που ωστόσο δεν συνορεύει με μελό.”
Κάθε Πέμπτη κύριε ΓκρηνVi (“Every Thursday, Mr. Green”) has a long, successful history in Greece. First produced in 2000 in Athens, at the Roes Theatre, then the Caterina Vaselikov Theatre, then in Thessaloniki, the play was produced by Kostas Ballas, directed by Giorgos Michalakopoulos and starred Gerasimos Skiadaresis and Giorgos Michalakopoulos. The production ran for two years and swept the Time Out Theatre Awards.
A second Greek production played in Athens and Thessaloniki from 2012-2014. Giorgos Michalakopoulos won the Best Actor award again.
