The first professional production of Visiting Mr. Green was at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in the summer of 1996.

Directed by John Rando, it starred Eli Wallach and Neal Huff.

The following year, Visiting Mr. Green opened at the 499-seat Union Square Theatre in NYC. Eli Wallach‘s co-star was now David Alan Basche, and the director was Lonny Price, produced by Arnold Mittelman.

Visiting Mr. Green ran a full year, making it the longest running play in NYC in 1997-1998. The play was nominated for a Drama League Award, and Eli Wallach won several acting awards.
